Australian wonder horse Black Caviar has won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at England's Royal Ascot. This is her 22nd straight win from 22 starts, her first in England.

The new Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has honored the film Red Dog with the academy's inaugural best picture award.

The major AACTA Awards for film and television were held in ceremonies at Sydney Opera House on the night of December 31.

The AACTA Awards take over, and continue, the Australian Film Institute Awards which had been in existence since 1958.

Red Dog tells the true story of a wandering red kelpie which helped unite communities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A statue has been erected in the Western Australia town of Dampier in memory of Red Dog.

The major AACTA Awards for film and television were held in ceremonies at Sydney Opera House on the night of December 31.

Red Dog tells the true story of a wandering red kelpie which helped unite communities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A statue has been erected in the Western Australia town of Dampier in memory of Red Dog.

Australian Open No 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France) succumbed in a Round 4 five-setter to rising Japanese star and No 24 seed Kei Nishikori.

World No 1 in women's singles tennis and Australian Open No 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) was beaten by No 11 seed and defending champion Kim Clijsters (Belgium) in a quarterfinal match at the Australian Open this afternoon, January 24, at Melbourne Park.

Clijsters defeated Wozniacki in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6.

Australian wonder horse Black Caviar has won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at England's Royal Ascot. This is her 22nd straight win from 22 starts, her first in England.

She won on the unfamiliar English track with the fast-finishing Moonlight Cloud and Restiadargent nearly breaking her no-loss record of straight victories.

And yes, Black Caviar met the Queen, Elizabeth II, who attended Royal Ascot and gave Black Caviar a pat after the race.

Australia's first individual gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games has gone to Tom Slngsby in the men's sailing laser class.

Slingsby, 27, hails from Gosford on the Central Coast of New South Wales, just about an hour's drive from Sydney.

He dominated the London laser class event with four wins and three seconds out of 10 fleet races. At the Beijing 2008 Olympics he finished 22nd in the same event.

"The Olympics is a dream," Slingsby was quoted as saying after winning the event. "It is the pinnacle of the sport and right now I am the happiest man on the planet."

Red Dog Is Australias Best Movie

The new Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has honored the film Red Dog with the academy's inaugural best picture award.

The major AACTA Awards for film and television were held in ceremonies at Sydney Opera House on the night of December 31.

The AACTA Awards take over, and continue, the Australian Film Institute Awards which had been in existence since 1958.

Red Dog tells the true story of a wandering red kelpie which helped unite communities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. A statue has been erected in the Western Australia town of Dampier in memory of Red Dog.

Red Dog Is Australias Best Movie

Three individual swimming gold medals went to Australian athletes at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. In Athens in 2004, there were five individual gold medals for Aussie swimmers. Beijing in 2008 had four.

London in 2012, and not one Aussie swimmer won an Olympic gold medal. Sure, the Aussie women's 4x100m relay team won swimming gold. But individually, nada.
